conservation : Flan un peu court. Très beau
portrait expressif. Revers de haut relief. Une
patine avec des reflets mordorés recouvre la
pièce. Commentaires à propos de cet exemplaire :
Portrait tout à fait inhabituel. Commentaires à
propos de ce type monétaire : Le premier consulat
de Vespasien date de 69. Il prend son second
consulat avec Titus le 1er janvier 70. Le revers
commémore le retour à la paix après deux années de
guerre civile et la fin de la guerre de Judée en
70 avec la victoire de Titus et la prise de
Jérusalem. Historique : Vespasien est né le 17
novembre 9 à Flacrines, près de Reate (en pays
sabin). Il appartient à la bourgeoisie municipale
italienne. Édile en 38, prêteur en 40, consul en
51, proconsul d'Afrique en 63, il commande avec
Claude l'expédition de Bretagne. Néron lui confie
trois légions et un imperium proconsulaire pour
écraser la révolte de Judée en 66. Il est proclamé
auguste le 1er juillet 69 à Alexandrie et ses
fils, Titus et Domitien, sont promus césars.
Vitellius est éliminé le 20 décembre 69. Titus est
associé directement au gouvernement par son père
dès 71. Son règne est consacré à la restauration
politique et économique de Rome. En 73, il revêt
la censure. Il meurt à Reate le 24 juin 79. VSO

A conclusione dell'esame osservo che:
- il peso e il diametro della moneta non si
discostano dalla norma;
- l'aspetto generale lascia a desiderare, il
colore è falsato e non è dato di conoscere come la
moneta si presenti nella realtà all'esame diretto;
- il profilo del dritto di Vespasiano si discosta
in modo sostanziale da quello delle monete di cui
ai link 1÷18 e 21÷25
di cui sopra;
- non si può escludere a priori che la moneta di
figura rientri nella fascia di ritratti non
standard di cui alla nota3,
rappresentati dalle monete di cui ai link 19 e 20 di sopra;
- desta perplessità l'assenza sulla moneta di una
patina e di tracce di usura.
Alla luce di quanto sopra, pur nei limiti di una
valutazione a distanza, dubito che la moneta sia
autentica.

Dalla tabella si evince che il denario
di figura (3,35g, 15,5-17,5mm, 5h) presenta
caratteristiche fisiche comparabili con quelle dei
conî d'epoca.
(2) Se si considera che
Vespasiano fu investito per la seconda volta dei
poteri di tribuno il primo agosto del '70, si può
ritenere che la moneta in esame sia stata
battuta prima di quella data e non prima del
gennaio del '70, perché le prime monete del regno
si distinguono per il fatto di non recare nel
rovescio la leggenda COS ITERVM TR POT.

VESPASIANVS AVGustus. Il titolo dinastico di
Caesar viene mutuato dalla famiglia
Giulio-Claudia. Una breve sintesi biografica di
Vespasiano viene tracciata dal portale
dell'Enciclopedia Treccani (v. link).
A
proposito
della
monetazione
di
Vespasiano
del
primo
semestre
del
'70,
cui
la
moneta
di
figura appartiene, il RIC fa osservare che gli
incisori del periodo non ebbero verosimilmente la
possibilità di ritrarre l'imperatore dal vivo
perché questi giunse a Roma solo nell'ottobre del
'70. La conseguenza, secondo questa tesi, è che il
ritratto di Vespasiano in queste prime
monete non è stato ancora standardizzato e
potrebbe essere diverso da quello tipico delle
emissioni più tarde.
(4) COnSul ITER TRibunicia
POTestate (Console per la seconda volta, investito
dei poteri di tribuno).Il governo di Vespasiano fa
della pace il suo emblema. La Pace assisa a
sinistra si distingue in virtù dei suoi attributi,
il ramo di ulivo e il cadùceo. Il c. era anche
attributo di Mercurio, il dio del commercio, che
lo aveva ricevuto in dono da Apollo a cui aveva
restituito la lira. Dunque il messaggio è
trasparente, Vespasiano assicura all'Orbe la pace,
presupposto indispensabile per lo sviluppo degli
scambi e del commercio.
