Constantius II, AD 337-361. An 18mm bronze.
Obverse: Laureate bust left with Imperial mantle.
Legend is FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C. Reverse: Camp
gate with two turrets and star between. Legend is
PROVIDENTIAE CAESS with SMK gamma pellet in
exergue. History: FLAVIVS IVLIVS CONSTANTIVS was
born on August 7, 317 to Fausta and Constantine I.
He became Caesar on November 8, 324 and Augustus
on September 9, 337 after his father's death. He
received the eastern provinces in the division of
the Empire with his brothers Constans and
Constantine II. He spent much of his reign warring
with the Sassanians under Sapor II, but suppressed
Magnentius, the murderer of Constans, to become
the sole Augustus in August of 353. He died of
illness on November 3, 361 near Tarsus while
marching to suppress Julian II, who had declared
himself Augustus in early 360. Condition: The coin
is in VF condition.

Veniamo alle conclusioni. Per quanto consentito da una
valutazione a distanza, la moneta appare autentica e
nel presente stato di conservazione non dovrebbe
valere che pochi euro.

Dalla tabella si evince che il follis di figura
presenta caratteristiche di peso e diametro (2,4g,
18mm, 2H) non difformi da quelle dei conî d'epoca.

FLavius IVLius CONSTANTIVS NOBilis Caesar. Flavio
Giulio Costanzo era figlio secondogenito di
Costantino I e di Fausta (la moglie legittima
di Costantino I), nato il 7.8.317, "Nobilis Caesar"
(corrispondente a ciò che oggi chiameremmo principe
ereditario) nel luglio/agosto del 324, Augusto il
9.9.337.

PROVIDENTIAE CAESS (Providentiae Caesarum, alla
Previdenza dei Cesari). L'emissione
monetale in esame fu battuta nell'arco temporale
325-326, regnante Costantino I, nel nome degli
eredi designati di Costantino I:
- Crispo Cesare, figlio di Costantino I e di
Minervina (concubina di Costantino I), nato
prima del matrimonio di Costantino I con
Fausta.
FL IVL CRISPVS NOB CAES (RIC. 35, solo officina
B) ovvero
IVL IVL CRIS-PVS NOB CAES (RIC. 36, solo
officina A, B, Δ, v. link)
- Costantino Cesare, figlio primogenito di
Costantino I e di Fausta:

- Costanzo Cesare, figlio secondogenito di
Costantino I e di Fausta:
FL IVL CONSTANTIVS NOB C (RIC. 38, officine A,

Secondo il RIC, i due elementi architettonici
posti in cima al castello sarebbero due torri.
