Concludo osservando che il denario in esame appare autentico.

Si evince dalla tabella che la moneta in esame (3,80g, c. 18,8mm, 6h) presenta caratteristiche fisiche non dissimili da quelle dei conȋ d'epoca.
(2) L. SATVRN è verosimilmente Lucius Apuleius Saturninus, tribuno della plebe nel 103 e nel 100 a.C. Per le vicende storiche legate a questo personaggio, giustiziato nel 99 durante il consolato di Mario, si rimanda alla scheda del portale dell'Enciclopedia Treccani (v. link).
(3) E' interpretazione comune che l'auriga rappresentato nel rovescio della moneta sia Saturno, divinità legata all'agricoltura nella quale trova impiego il falcetto (harpe-es in latino, v. diz. della lingua latina Bianchi/Lelli; harpa, secondo lo Stevenson) impugnato dall'auriga. Secondo il mito, di questo strumento Saturno si sarebbe avvalso per evirare il proprio padre Urano. Il monetiere Saturnino, attraverso l'icona di Saturno in quadriga, allude al proprio cognomen (v. (4) Il segno di controllo che si osserva su questo denario è costituito da una lettera latina, talora rovesciata, seguita o meno da un massimo di 4 segni di interpunzione. La lettera può trovarsi al di sopra della quadriga, come nel caso in esame, oppure sopra la linea di esergo, nel qual caso alla moneta viene assegnato il categorico Crawford 317/3b (v. esempio).
