D. Ercole, busto di spalla ricoperto di pelle
leonina, testa a destra, clava sopra la spalla
sinistra2; scudo e
segno di controllo •/V3 a sinistra. Sotto, ROMA4. Bordo perlinato.
R. Entro corona d'alloro, Roma elmata a tripla
cresta, stante di fronte, con lancia nella mano
destra, incoronata da figura maschile alla sua
destra che con la mano sinistra sorregge una
cornucopia. Tra i due, il segno di controllo di cui
sopra. In esergo LENT.MAR.F5, con NT e MAR in
nesso.

Veniamo alle conclusioni. Il peso della moneta in
esame andrebbe controllato meglio, il diametro è nella
norma. Per un'agevole comparazione con le monete
autentiche del periodo, ho riportato nella tabella allegata le
immagini delle monete autentiche reperite nel web. A
mio avviso, la moneta di figura è, per caratteristiche
fisiche, generali e di stile, non difforme dalle
monete autentiche reperite nel web. Nelle presenti
condizioni, se autentica, la moneta potrebbe avere un
valore venale di c. 100,00€.

Il diametro della moneta (18-19mm) è nella norma,il
peso (3,5g) è un po' al di sotto della media dei
valori tabulati.
(2) L'insolito busto di Ercole
appartiene forse all'Ercole Respiciens
(retrospiciente, che guarda all'indietro) attestato
a Reate; si noti anche la fondazione di Reate da
parte di un compagno di Ercole. Il tipo del dritto,
se correttamente identificato, riflette forse
l'origine Sabina dei Claudi.
(3) •/V. Il segno di controllo
presente nel dritto dei denari di P. Cornelius
Lentulus Marcellinus, pur mutevole da un'emissione
all'altra, si ripete nella stessa forma, sia nel
dritto che nel rovescio.
(4) ROMA è l'etnico, lo stato
cioè nel nome del quale la moneta è stata battuta.
(5) LENT.MAR.F (LENTulus MARcellinus Filius). Publius
Cornelius Lentulus Marcellinus è il nome del nostro
monetiere, figlio di un certo M. Claudius
Marcellus (quindi membro dei Claudi) e padre del
monetiere Cn. Lentulus che sarà Console nel 56 BC
(v. link). |
