Description revers : Apollon à demi nu, assis
à gauche, tenant une branche de laurier de la
main droite, le bras gauche appuyé sur une
lyre qui est posée sur la chaise. Traduction
revers : 'Pontifex Maximus Tribunicia Potestas
quartus Consul secundus Pater Patriو', (Grand
pontife, revêtu de la quatrième puissance
tribunitienne, consul pour la deuxième fois,
père de la patrie). Commentaire à propos de
cet exemplaire : Poids léger. Commentaires :
L'apparition d'Apollon sur le monnayage de
Gordien III est difficile à expliquer. Ce type
ne peut être associé au mariage de Gordien III
car ce dernier eut lieu en 241 alors que le
type monétaire représentant Apollon est apparu
sur le monnayage à la fin de l'année 240. Il est vraisemblable
qu'après son voyage en Orient, l'empereur
souhaita honorer ce dieu particulièrement
important dans ces provinces. Historique :
Gordien III est le petit-fils de Gordien Ier
et le neveu de Gordien II, empereurs éphémères
de l'année 238. A la demande du peuple de
Rome, il est choisi comme césar par Balbin et
Pupien et leur succède après leurs
assassinats. Empereur à 13 ans, marié à 16,
tué à 19, voilà comment pourrait se résumer la
vie de ce jeune homme qui fut victime des
appétits de Philippe l'Arabe, nouveau préfet
du prétoire.

Concludo osservando
che le caratteristiche generali e di stile
della moneta, appaiono in sintonia con i conî
autentici d'epoca; pertanto, pur nei limiti di
una valutazione a distanza, ritengo verosimile
che la moneta sia autentica;
il suo valore venale potrebbe stimarsi
attorno ai 40-50€.

Dalla tabella si evince che l'antoniniano di
figura (4,6g, 22mm, 7h) presenta un
peso un po' al di sopra di quello della maggior parte degli
antoniniani tabulati.

in un'articolata tabella delle emissioni
della zecca di Roma, indica che la tipologia
monetale in esame fu battuta dalla quinta di
sei officine attive nel periodo, nel corso
di un'emissione speciale intervenuta al
ritorno da un viaggio in Oriente
dell'imperatore. E' probabile che al ritorno
dal viaggio, l'imperatore abbia voluto così
onorare il dio Apollo, assai popolare nelle
province (v. link). |
