Descrizione sommaria:
D. IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG2. Gordiano III, busto radiato, paludato e corazzato a destra visto da dietro.
R. VIRTVTI AVGVSTI3. Ercole, nudo, stante a destra, mano destra su un fianco e mano sinistra su una clava appoggiata su una roccia, pelle di leone accanto alla clava.

Papst Paul III. ließ die Statue dann im Palazzo Farnese aufstellen. Heute befindet sie sich im Nationalmuseum von Neapel. Bei ihr handelt es sich um eine Kopie einer knapp drei Meter großen Statue des berühmten griechischen Bildhauers Lysipp, die dieser um 320 v. Chr. geschaffen haben soll.

Concludo osservando che le caratteristiche fisiche, generali e di stile della moneta, appaiono in sintonia con i conî autentici d'epoca.

Dalla tabella si evince che le caratteristiche fisiche dell'antoniniano di figura (4,71g, 21,87÷21,94mm, 7h) non si discostano da quelle dei conî d'epoca.

Il sito francese http://www.inumis.com/ressources/rome/articles/gordien_iii/gordien3.html, in un'articolata tabella delle emissioni della zecca di Roma, indica che la tipologia monetale in esame fu battuta dalla quarta di sei officine, al tempo attive nella zecca, per quattro emissioni successive, l'ottava (fine 240), la nona (241), la decima (242) e l'undicesima (inizi del 243). Il valore dell'Augusto è illustrato attraverso la rappresentazione della figura mitologica di Ercole, al servizio e alla difesa dell'umanità (RIC, pag. 10).
