Price 1100 CHF (~974 USD) Description ANCIENT
COINAGE SPECIAL COLLECTION OF ROMAN IMPERATORS AND
EMPERORS ROMAN EMPIRE Augustus, 27 BC – 14 AD No.:
1232 Schätzwert/Estimate: CHF 750 Denarius 29/27,

617. C. 115. Dark toning. Almost extremely fine.
Ex Münzhandlung Basel Commemorating the victory at
Actium, the coin displays Octavian as triumphator.
Interestingly, Octavian sold his victory and
triumph to the Roman populace as a triumph over
Cleopatra of Egypt and not over Marcus Antonius.
It would have been difficult to celebrate a
triumph in Rome over a Roman foe.

un arco fu dedicato a Roma al vincitore, come
ricorda una lunga iscrizione (m. 2,67) facente
parte dell'arco, ritrovata nel 1546
(v. link).
Dell'immagine dell'arco rimane traccia nel
denario catalogato RIC 267 (v. link).
